The central theme of our research program is developing new methodologies and applying them to behavioral and biomedical sciences. 

Many quantities of interest in behavioral and biomedical sciences are unobservable but well-conceived characteristics such as attitudes, temperament, psychological diagnoses, and health behaviors. Such constructs can be measured indirectly by using multiple items as indicators of their unobservable (latent) characteristics. Our lab interests pertain to this line of research, in particular, the finite mixtures for categorical data.
